Sepsis is a serious illness, not an everyday wellness situation. The trials tested an additional treatment alongside usual hospital care.
What is being researched?
Does the additional treatment reduce deaths in adults with sepsis?
What does this mean for you?
The large TESTS trial found no clear reduction in its main outcome. Changing an immune marker is not the same as preventing deaths.
What we cannot be sure of
Do not extrapolate to healthy people. TESTS had a data correction; the smaller ETASS trial's survival analyses did not fully agree.
